Dependence, Delay, Departure
RYM Mid-Atlantic was fun, short, and sweet. Unlike my time in BWI airport. But after 13 hours in the airport, my flight did finally take off, and I made it back home. A quick six hours at home, and Caden picked me up to head to Allaso Ranch for the final RYM of the Summer. Even though it has only been 1 week, it feels like this blog is a mixture of two different weeks. You will read some stories from Maryland and some from Texas.
I woke up to see the sunrise on the final day of RYM Mid-Atlantic. God reveals his beauty and power in the beauty and power of his creation. "Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun" (Ecclesiastes 11:7).
Here is a highlight, though there have been many. Here at RYM Texas, I saw a man who looked so familiar and gave me some severe deja vu. As I tried to recall why he looked so familiar, I remembered playing cards with him and his son at RYM when I was in middle school. I stopped him to introduce myself. At the mention of Redeemer Temple, he instantly remembered my dad at presbytery. We had roomed with his church, New Saint Peter's, since we both had smaller groups when I was in middle school. It has been so fun to see all the people who I know beacuse of a mutual love for the King of all.
As I waited in the Baltimore airport, I decided to leave my laptop open on a screen that said "Jesus Loves." I wanted to do a little social experiment, testing out different texts while encouraging people with God's love. Below are the three versions that I used. I only had one person talk to me about it in the several hours that I had my laptop open, but it was worth it and encouraging nonetheless because of that one person. As she ran past me, probably rushing to make her connection, she looked up and said, "I needed that." I do not know what she was going through or what was going through her mind as she ran through BWI. I do not know where she came from or where she was going. I do not know why I decided to put up my computer on that screen, but God knew what he was doing with us. How she felt, is how I felt as I felt during Elliot Cherry's sermon on the last night of the Maryland conference. He convicted me in Psalm 23. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." Thanks, Elliot, "I needed that." God Is Big Even In The Small.
Sometimes affection is as fine as parsley.
