Road, Rain, Reunion,
After a lovely time of rest and fun at home, I am traveling with RYM again — this week's destination: North East, Maryland. Registration day was really rainy, and it is quite humid. The sun was out more today and should be out the rest of the week.
Reunited with the Interns (well... half of them, since the rest are in Malibu), Michael takes us on a side quest to Delaware just so we could... "check off the box!"
While I was back in town, I was able to hang out with two of my best friends at the same time. I had so much fun hanging out with Stella and Josh and getting to hang out in groups of people that might not usually hang out together. Part of being home during college means squeezing in as many hangouts as I can. I am so thankful that even though I do not spend most of my time physically close to both of these dear friends, I am still able to have such special friendships with both of them. I miss y'all.
Everywhere I go, I seem to run into somebody I know. Just like the ubiquity of friends in a small town, as I travel the country with RYM, I run into familiar faces from church and school. It's heartening to see people loving Jesus in many different places who used to worship in my community, or who were trained and educated at the same place where I am being educated. This week, among a number of unknown Grove City connections, I have been reunited with Andrew Vahlberg, from my OB (orientation board) family at GCC, and the Wilkes, who attended Redeemer Temple years ago. God is big even in the small.
Well, I would have read while I traveled, but I was too busy talking to everybody. One fellow named EJ came up to me and asked if I went to Grove City because I was wearing a Grove City T-shirt. I told him that I was, and we progressed down the road of what year are you, what are you studying, etc. When I told him that I wanted to be a pastor, he told me that he was a Pentecostal pastor. At one point in the conversation, he asked how old I was, and after I replied told me that I was going to get married soon. ("SOON, there's that word again" - The Chosen reference) I don't know if this was a prayer or an attempted prophecy, but I guess we'll see. Then we prayed for each other and parted ways. I also spoke with my Vietnamese seatmate about my Vietnamese roommate that I had last year, and then an Indian man across the aisle who was from Houston. I did not have time to read.
RYM TEXAS!
